The range of tasks of the fully automatic pick & feed system essentially includes two aspects. On the one hand, it is used to fill the floor storage, from which pre-positioned wood packages with construction timber, glued laminated timber, solid structural timber or TJi beams are unstacked. On the other hand, the system manages the feed to the feed cross conveyor of a Hundegger joinery or cutting machine or a machining center.

To fill the floor storage, a package of raw wood is placed at the storage area by the operating staff using a crane or forklift and aligned with stops. The layer gripper of the pick & feed machine then positions it fully automatically over the package and transports it in individual layers to a free space in the floor storage. To load the SPM-2 with plasterboard, chipboard or OSB boards, this is done using vacuum technology.

The dimensions of the wood and wood packages as well as their position are saved by the computer of the joinery or cutting machine and displayed graphically on the screen. From the information from the ground support, the single member construction program finally retrieves the data for the required cross-sections and lengths for a construction project. The layer gripper then transports the required wood packages fully automatically to the feed cross conveyor, with unneeded raw wood in a layer being placed back in the warehouse.
